A Tale of Two Styles

If you remember a few posts back, I showed you my latest obsession with Scalamandre and their gorgeous “Zebras” wall covering and accessories.  Well, my amazing sister surprised me this Christmas with the perfect dose of zebra love!  (At least I know that somebody is reading my posts! Ha! Hey Sis!).  Check it out…

I actually kissed the little guy when I opened it … mm-hmm.

Not only did she give me the sweetest treasure but she also gave me a challenge.  I love black and think it is so luxurious and chic.  Some of my favorite looks right now are black and gold!

Is that a leopard rug I see? Me-wow!

But my house is light and coastal with very little black, if any.  The closest I have is my joggling board (I’ll tell you about that in a future post) – it is  Charleston Green, which is actually a very, very dark green and we have espresso stained wood in our Master.  Seriously, that’s it.  My challenge was to incorporate this sleek, modern luxury in our current style.  I’ve heard it said that every room needs some black to “ground” it.  Well I think that’s hogwash.  I think there’s amazing design out there in all color palettes and some of my faves have no black in it.

So, how do I combine these two very different styles – both of which I love?

I landed on our Master bedroom which is where you’ll find my darker wood and traditional furnishings in an espresso stain.   I have all ivory linens and neutrals in the room and the tray is the perfect accent to provide coziness and character.  Master bedrooms are a great place to splurge on nice linens and a little glamour and adding a tray on the bed gives one more surface for some lovely flowers or a neat accessory.  Beautiful beds are all about layering and this gives you one more layer to work with!

Now if I could just get that coffee and cookies to magically appear every morning when I wake up …
