Milo’s Beach Cottage

Project Details

Low Country Interiors had the honor to design for her clients a second time as they returned to the neighborhood they loved. The goal, in collaboration with the architect and builder, was to renovate an early 1990’s home much in need of repair, redesign and restoration. The result was a light, airy beach cottage perfect for the homeowner, frequent guests, and Milo, their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Special attention was made to encourage height and spaciousness in the 8’ ceilings, while offering that special “cottage farmhouse” feel, by adding board and batten in the bedrooms and beadboard in the baths. The copper gas lanterns that welcome at the entry are echoed over the kitchen island giving a rooted sense to the home. Shiplap, subway tile and encaustic cement tile continue the cottage feel, while a paint palette of whites and touches of blue are reminiscent of the nearby waterway. A design challenge for Nicole was to incorporate their recently purchased furnishings from their prior home that had been inspired by their travels to France, and beloved pieces collected over time into this new softer, more relaxed beach cottage. With a few new additions, Nicole was able to reposition furnishings, rugs and accessories to create the sense of a waterway retreat.
